Day of Travel - AO Trips
When departing your home city for your flight to Aruba, it is recommended that you arrive at the airport at least 3 hours prior to your flight departure time due to long expected wait times in TSA security lines and don’t forget your face covering. Please verify with your airline the minimum check-in time required with checked luggage. If you are not checked in by the required time, you may be denied boarding by the airline. Any fees associated with checked luggage or luggage weight restrictions will be at your own expense. Please check with your airline to confirm the current luggage allowances and any fees associated with checked luggage as some airlines have changed their luggage allowances for 2022.
Arrival Into Aruba - Queen Beatrix International Aruba Airport (AUA)
After retrieving your luggage, proceed to the health screening line. The medical personnel will review the uploaded test results on the Aruba Health App (on your phone) and if approved will give you a “pass card” and a DVG card for you to give to the hotel upon arrival. Then proceed to the Aruba Customs area; depending on the time of day they may require scanning of all luggage before exiting the sliding glass doors to the LEFT. If your test results were NOT approved, you will need to go to the onsite medical testing site (to the RIGHT) after you go through customs.
You must wear you’re A-O Trips red or teal wristband for identification by the A-O Trips airport staff. Once outside, please look for A-O Trips airport staff who will be dressed in an ORANGE Polo and BLACK pants holding an A-O Trips sign. Once you have identified yourself to the A-O airport staff, you will be escorted to the transportation vehicles. The transfer to the hotel will take approximately 25-30 minutes.
If your luggage does not arrive with you at your final destination, you MUST file a report with the airline prior to leaving the airport. If there is no one at the baggage claim office, find another airline employee to assist.
Airlines offer an online tracking service, so make sure you have the file claim number before leaving the airport.
Once you arrive at the hotel, please provide your baggage claim information to our onsite staff so that they can assist you in tracking your bags.
Check with your airline for specific requirements and limitation. There are baggage restrictions for “smart” bags and policies vary by airline. All luggage fees are your responsibility and will not be reimbursed by Auto-Owners Insurance. It is a good idea to have your name and address inside of your luggage, as well as a hard luggage tag and the Auto-Owners Insurance preprinted tag on the outside of your checked bags.
Keep in mind when looking at your flight itinerary that your flight departure and arrival times are listed in the local time zones for those destinations. Aruba is on the US Eastern Standard Time (EST) zone and does not observe daylight savings between March and October.

There are times beyond anyone’s control when a flight may be delayed or even cancelled. Most airlines will automatically confirm your arrangements or adjust your itinerary to get you to your destination.
The best way to confirm your new arrangements is by speaking with an airline agent at the airport or calling the airline directly using their toll free number.
If the disruption causes you to stay overnight and depending on the circumstance for which the delay or cancellation occurred, the airline may or may not accommodate you with hotel and/or meal vouchers. In most cases, airlines generally will accommodate passengers who are disrupted due to mechanical issues; however, they typically will not accommodate passengers (beyond booking the next available flight) who are disrupted due to weather related issues.
If you are not accommodated by the airline, you will be responsible for paying any expenses related to your disruption. If you need assistance in finding overnight accommodations, please call the Auto-Owners Insurance Travel Desk at Gavel International at (877) 379-7101 or (816) 334-0101. A credit card will be required to make and guarantee a hotel reservation.
The airline may not be able to retrieve your checked bags in the event of a travel disruption. Your bags may be sent on to your final destination and be held there until your arrival. Keep this in mind when packing a carry-on bag and be sure to include necessary items, such as medications, toiletries, and an extra set of clothing. Many travelers find travel insurance to be an affordable way to offset expenses associated with delayed or canceled flights.
It’s a good idea to keep your cell phone turned on throughout your travel day (except when on the plane) in case there are travel delays. This will allow the airline and/or Gavel International to be able to reach you with updates on your flight arrangements.
