Known for its towering Alps, chocolate, cheese and political neutrality, Switzerland’s picturesque countryside is a storybook place to visit.
Our journey will begin with an overnight flight to Zurich and a one-hour bus ride to visit the bustling, old world city of Lucerne for brunch, a walking tour and a little time on our own. We will then depart for Interlaken for our three-night stay at the Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel and Spa. This historic hotel is nestled within the Swiss Alps and offers a breathtaking view of Mount Jungfrau. After your travel to Switzerland, this resort has the perfect remedy to unwind and relax at Spa Necens. Enjoy fine dining at La Terrasse or more casual Italian fare at Sapori.
Nestled between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, the fabled town of Interlaken can be your springboard for experiences of all activity levels. Horse-drawn carriages are a perfect way to get to dinner or see this scenic town. A signature experience in Interlaken is paragliding from the Swiss Alps and landing in front of our hotel! We will be taking you on a tour to Mount Schilthorn at an elevation of 9,700 feet in the Alps. This tour has unforgettable views and will include lunch in the 360-degree revolving restaurant where the James Bond movie, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,” was filmed.
After departing Interlaken, our next adventure takes us by train through the Swiss countryside to the walled, medieval village of Gruyeres. In Gruyeres we will indulge in a traditional Swiss lunch before exploring the Gruyeres Castle and town. We are sure to leave with full stomachs as we head to Montreux. On the way, you may notice a language change, as the primary language in Interlaken is German while in Montreux it is French. Don’t worry, English is commonly understood and spoken by the Swiss.
We will spend four nights in the luxurious Fairmont Le Montreux Palace, located in the Swiss Riviera on the stunning Lake Geneva. Fairmont Le Montreux Palace has several dining venues that bring together flavors from throughout Switzerland and around the world. At the Fairmont Spa you will find authentic spa experiences inspired by local traditions, plants and herbs as well as expert, attentive spa staff.
In Montreux you will enjoy strolling along the water while taking in the local culture. Montreux is steeped in music history, especially jazz and pop. There is a museum dedicated to the music of Queen and Freddie Mercury, located in the casino not far from the hotel. Around Montreux, wineries dot the hillside while Swiss chocolate and delectable cheeses are always close at hand. There is a host of live music nightly throughout Montreux, including Funky Claude’s Bar, located in our hotel. This is a great place to unwind after a day of sightseeing.
The city of Vevey is conveniently located near Montreux. You can easily get there by using a complimentary public transportation pass. Vevey is considered one of the “Pearls of the Swiss Riviera.” There you will enjoy shopping, dining, coffee shops and chocolate. Movie enthusiasts will also want to visit the Charlie Chaplin museum.
