Caribbean Cruise Own Air Policy

***We will be arriving into and departing from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan.  Please make sure you select the correct airport when booking your own travel if you are planning to use our group transportation.  Additional details are below. ***

After September 18, 2026, any changes made to your registration (including transportation choice, travel dates, adding/changing travelers) could result in penalty fees.

Please send your flight itinerary with confirmation number and receipt to incentive.travel@aoins.com upon booking. In order to receive reimbursement for your flights, a detailed flight itinerary and receipt must be received by October 18, 2026. 

Important details to keep in mind:

  • Please do not book your flights until you have been assigned to your travel dates.
  • If your flights are delayed or cancelled, you will be responsible for rebooking your flights.
  • Reimbursements will not be made for additional expenses incurred due to flight delays or cancellations.

Reimbursements will be sent to you via check from Auto-Owners Insurance AFTER you have traveled on the trip.

Auto-Owners Insurance will reimburse you for the cost that you paid for your flights up to the maximum amount of $700 per traveler.

  • If you will be using airline reward points, miles, or vouchers for the entire fare, or traveling to the destination by methods other than a commercial flight, you will receive a compensation check for $600 per traveler.
  • Upon receipt of your flight itinerary and receipt, we will confirm your reimbursement amount.  Should you later make changes to your itinerary, your reimbursement amount will not change.
  • Air allowances will not be reimbursed for cancelled trips. 

Transfers from/to the airport/pier

Transfers from/to the airport/pier will be provided when the following criteria is met:

  • You are arriving/departing on designated group arrival/departure days.
  • You arrive at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan between 2:00PM - 6:00PM on your group arrival day. You depart between 2:00PM-6:30PM on your group departure day. 
  • If your flight is delayed causing you to arrive after the arrival window indicated above, transfers will not be provided unless there are other A-O travelers on that same flight using standard flights.
  • Your complete flight itinerary and receipt must be received by October 18, 2026.

Note: If you arrive at SJU prior to 2:00 PM on a group arrival day and wish to wait for a transfer, please notify Gavel International in advance. You will be placed on the earliest departing vehicle with available space. Ship Embarkation will not begin before 1:00 PM on group arrival day.

Important Information for Booking Your Own Flights

If you are booking your own flights to and from San Juan and plan to arrive on your assigned group arrival day and depart on your assigned group departure day, please review the following details before finalizing your travel arrangements.

  • Airport and port timing: Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) is approximately 20–25 minutes from the port, depending on traffic.
  • Embarkation on arrival day: Ship embarkation begins at 1:00 PM. If you arrive at the port before 1:00 PM, you will not be permitted to board until embarkation begins.
  • Late arrival flexibility: You may join the ship any time after 1:00 PM on arrival day through 9:30 PM, which is all-aboard time on Day 2.
  • Departure day schedule: The ship is scheduled to arrive in port at approximately 7:00 AM, with disembarkation beginning at approximately 8:00 AM. You must clear U.S. Customs before disembarking.
  • Luggage screening: At the airport: All checked and carry-on luggage must go through Agriculture screening and receive a sticker. Checked luggage must have the sticker before it is checked, and carry-on luggage must have the sticker before you go through security.
  • Recommended airport arrival: Plan to arrive at SJU at least two hours before your flight to the U.S. When accounting for transfer time, you should leave the port for the airport at least 2.5 hours before your flight.
  • Recommended flight departure time: We strongly recommend booking flights that depart after 11:30 AM to allow enough time to clear customs, disembark, travel to the airport, complete agriculture inspection, check in with the airline, clear security, and reach your gate.

The ship will be docked in San Juan overnight on day 1 and will set sail on day 2 at 10:00 pm. If flight disruptions cause you to arrive in San Juan on day 2, you will still be able to join the cruise.

Ground Transportation from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport to the pier

If you do not meet the above criteria to join the group transportation, you will be responsible for your own transportation arrangements to and from the airport and the pier. The transfer time from the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan to the Windstar Star Pride embarkation pier is approximately 20-25 minutes depending on traffic.

Note:  There will NOT be any upgrades or extensions available on the ship for this program. If you wish to extend your trip in San Juan, Puerto Rico, you will need to book those accommodations on your own.
