Your Italian adventure will begin with four nights at the Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Set on one of Rome's seven hills, it boasts panoramic views of the Eternal City. Located a short shuttle ride from Rome's city center and Vatican City, this luxury hotel is the perfect launching point for sightseeing in and around Rome.
Upon your arrival, we will have a shuttle into the city center for guided walking tours that will take you to some of the most famous sites in Rome. We will wrap up our first day in Rome with a welcome dinner showcasing local Italian favorites, before you turn in for a well-deserved night of sleep. Following a restful night, you will be ready to explore!
A visit to Rome is a walk through 3,000 years of history, architecture and culture. A-O Trips will provide group tours to see the Roman Colosseum, Roman Forum and the Vatican Museums, including the Sistine Chapel and Michelangelo's ceiling frescoes.
There are plenty of sights and activities to fill the days when you get to explore on your own. You can visit St. Peter’s Basilica, view famous sculptures by Bernini at the Borghese Gallery, travel the Appian Road to explore Roman Catacombs, visit the pope's summer residence and gardens, or attend a pasta-making class at a family-run farm and winery.
Our time in Rome will be during the warm summer season, so be sure to pack your swimsuit and enjoy lounging by the glittering outdoor pool while sipping on an Aperol Spritz, the quintessential Italian summer cocktail. The Rome Cavalieri also boasts a three-star Michelin restaurant-La Pergola, a luxury spa, a fitness center and a half-mile trail. Uliveto restaurant is a casual dining option for lunch or dinner and offers Mediterranean and international dishes with regional specialties from across Italy. Finish your evening under the stars with a cocktail on the Tiepolo Lounge & Terrace.
After exploring Rome, you will sit back and relax on a high-speed train that will whisk you off to Florence, capital of Italy's Tuscany region. At the Westin Excelsior Florence, an iconic luxury experience on the Arno River, you will relive history in an elegant guest room for the next four nights. Upon arrival A-O Trips will provide a group walking tour with visits to the cathedral and baptistry in Duomo Square. A-O Trips will also take you to the Academy, a museum which houses Michelangelo's statue of David, which is generally considered his greatest work of art.
During our stay in Florence, you will have plenty of time to browse boutiques along the Ponte Vechhio, enjoy an espresso at a local café, or visit the Ufizzi Gallery. Florence is surrounded by gently rolling hills, covered with villas, farms, vineyards and orchards. Tuscany wine country, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the towns of Sienna, Lucca, and San Gimignano are all easily accessible for day trips.
A trip to Florence would not be complete without indulging in the culinary scene! There are endless cafés and restaurants throughout the city where you will be treated to homemade pasta combined with local fresh ingredients for a meal that will be sure to satisfy. After dinner, be sure to enjoy a night cap while taking in the sweeping views of the Arno River from the glass rooftop bar that sits atop the Westin Excelsior.
We will be offering exclusive optional tours, which will be announced in Spring 2023. Be sure to check out www.aotrips.com as we get closer to travel time for tips on preparing and packing for your trip, information on the optional tours, and the daily itinerary.
